Be Thou My Vision
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word,
I ever with thee and Thou with me Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.
Riches I need not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine inheritance now and always;
Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
High king of heaven, my treasure Thou art.
High king of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joy, O bright heaven's Son!
Heart of my own heart whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O ruler of all.
I am very blind. I have worn glasses since about second grade, and also a lot recently when I ran out of contacts. While you get used to them, and they do correct your vision, wearing glasses makes me keenly aware of just how bad my vision is, and constantly reminds me that I do not see the world right. This is why I love wearing contacts - it corrects my vision from the inside, so that it is actually all I can see when I open my eyes. This is what I hope will happen as I draw closer to God with my spiritual vision too - that seeing from His eyes would become so ingrained that it is automatic. Seeing things from God's vision requires me to look at my work, my money, my friendships, and my circumstances in a different light.
1 Corinthians 13:12
For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
